TheCityUK calls on government to help firms boost export activity
The UK government should do more to help SMEs ramp up their exports, according to new research from TheCityUK.
In a report released today, the group says “helping SMEs fulfil their export potential could boost economic output and help solve the UK’s productivity puzzle”.
The group is calling for a “well-constructed one-stop-shop gov.uk website that is properly accessible and user-friendly”. It also states that the government should “encourage and maintain collaboration between suitable private sector institutions and bodies such as UKTI and UK Export Finance”.
TheCityUK boss Chris Cummings said: “The evidence shows that firms which export are more productive than those that stick to their national market, so finding effective solutions to encourage these firms to sell into international markets should be a priority for government working with the private sector.”
