The London-listed firm said it has secured the rights to 108 albums and songs belonging to Timothy Mosley, better known as Timbaland.
Timbaland, who has received 13 Grammy award nominations, has produced a raft of hit songs, including all of singer Justin Timberlake’s number one albums. He is also the brains behind tracks performed by Nelly Furtado, Missy Elliott, Jay Z, 50 Cent and 2Pac.
In addition, Timbaland has enjoyed commercial success as a solo artist, reaching number one in the US with Apologise.
Hipgnosis founder Merck Mercuriadis said: “Ask any of today’s greatest creators who their biggest influences are and the one name that appears on everybody’s list is Timbaland.
“His iconic records with Aaliyah, Jay Z, Missy Elliot, Nelly Furtado, and Justin Timberlake amongst many others are iconic and will be remembered forever.”
The deal is the latest in a string of purchases made by the Guernsey-registered firm, which enables shareholders to invest money into song catalogues.
