Terry urges Chelsea to net Pato as Pirlo drops Blues hint
CAPTAIN John Terry yesterday urged Chelsea to do what it takes to bring AC Milan wonderkid Alexandre Pato to Stamford Bridge.
The 19-year-old has admitted he would be interested in a move to west London, following the tracks of his former Rossoneri mentor Carlo Ancelotti.
Pato is believed to be unsettled by fellow Kaka’s world record switch to Real Madrid, but would command a whopping £40m fee.
Terry, however, is impressed by recommendations of the Brazilian striker from David Beckham and Andriy Shevchenko and believes Pato, who moved to the San Siro from Brazilian club Internacional for £19.6m two years ago, would be a valuable addition to the Chelsea ranks.
“I’ve heard some great things about him and how good a player he is, so it will be brilliant if Chelsea could sign him,” the England captain said.
“It’s great to hear he wants to talk to the new manager. I want Chelsea to be linked with the best players in the world, as I’m sure the fans do, and he’s definitely one of those. He’s fantastic.”
Milan now fear the high-profile departures of Ancelotti and Kaka could spark an exodus to west London with Andrea Pirlo and Clarence Seedorf also touted.
Indeed, Italian ace Pirlo did little to end the speculation yesterday when the 30-year-old quipped: “Me at Chelsea? Let’s see. Maybe not now, but we will see.”
At 34, a move for Seedorf looks less likely, although the Dutch star admitted he was flattered with the link. “It’s beautiful news, that Ancelotti wants me in London, but next year I will still be playing for Milan,” he said. “I have a contract with Milan and I am a player of Milan. Here I am well.”
Chelsea have, however, been warned off any move for Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero with the club’s sporting director Jesus Garcia Pitarch commenting: “The club has no desire to sell the player, even if his buy-out clause is met.”
