Team orders rule needs to be clarified, insists Button
JENSON BUTTON has called for the ruling on team orders to be clarified sooner rather than later so drivers can race on a level playing field.
The FIA said on Wednesday it would carry out a review into the regulations after deciding not to impose any further penalty to Ferrari’s $100,000 fine for breaching the rules at the German Grand Prix, where Felipe Massa moved over to hand victory to team-mate Fernando Alonso.
World champion Button has previously denied working under team orders at McLaren with fellow Brit Lewis Hamilton and goes into this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix at Monza looking to prove a point.
But he insists the drivers need clarification of the regulations as they stand in order for the sport to move on from the controversy.
“Obviously it was not down to us so our opinion [as drivers] doesn’t matter in this situation,” Button said. “The decision was down to the FIA who is the governing body.
“But the important thing is we get a clarification of the rules so we are all working with the same regulations. That is the key.”
