Support jobs at risk at Deloitte as firm moves to flexible working
A total 150 employees at Deloitte are at risk of losing their job, as the firm’s decision to pivot to permanent flexible working has reduced the number of admin tasks at the company.
Around a quarter of the 560 secretaries employed by the Big Four firm could lose their jobs, saving Deloitte some £4m annually on salary costs.
Last month Deloitte announced its staff will permanently be able to work wherever they want when Covid restrictions are eased and work from home guidance is scrapped.
An internal survey at the firm found more than 90 per cent of the workforce said ‘choice’ and ‘flexibility’ should be at the heart of how the business operates in future.
It is understood that improvements to self-service options for its people, like getting help with IT requests, have taken away some of the administrative work at the firm, meaning fewer people are required to carry out tasks.
The move to flexible working will only compound this, as digitisation at the company will be sped up.
Deloitte will look for redeployment opportunities for anyone at risk of redundancy.
A spokesperson said: “We are consulting on proposed changes to executive assistant roles at Deloitte, which, unfortunately, could lead to some redundancies.
“We know this will be difficult news for those affected and we are supporting our people during this process.”
