Superdry co-founder Julian Dunkerton gives £1m to anti-Brexit campaign
Julian Dunkerton, co-founder of the fashion label Superdry, has given £1m to the People's Vote campaign, a group with cross-party support that has called for a second public vote on any Brexit deal.
The donation is the largest ever received by the campaign group, and is expected to go towards funding opinion polls to rally support for a second referendum as the UK prepares to enter crucial talks over the terms of its withdrawal from the EU this winter.
The UK is currently set to leave the EU on 29 March next year, with the government having consistently ruled out a second referendum.
Dunkerton revealed his donation in an article for the Sunday Times, in which he argued that Britain still might not leave the EU – saying there was “a genuine chance to turn this around.” He also claimed that the brand he co-launched “would never have become the global success that it is” if Brexit had happened 20 years earlier.
