SUMMER’S SET TO SIZZLE AS CITY’S GOT TALENT MAKES A COMEBACK
IT’S SUMMERTIME, and if you’re looking for a ray of sunshine to penetrate the daily grind of City life, look no further. Regular readers of this column will remember last year, when The Capitalist whipped the financial world into a frenzy with a rundown of the top ten hunkiest gentlemen and loveliest ladies the City has to offer.
City’s Got Talent is now back by popular demand for its second year – so as the charts are exclusively chosen by you, dear readers, consider this the first official call for nominations.
Email thecapitalist@cityam.com with your submissions of colleagues, friends or even yourselves – bearing in mind, of course, that the elite judging panel of lucky City A.M. staff will need photographic evidence in order to decide the final line-up. (It’s a tough job, admittedly, but somebody’s got to do it.)
To refresh hazy memories, cast your eyes over the two winners of last year’s competition – Joshua Raymond, market strategist at City Index, and Sarah Davison, who works as a metals trader at Sempra, which was recently sold by RBS to JP Morgan.
BEER GOGGLES
To the Old Bailey headquarters of law firm Withers at the end of last week for the latest gathering of the Young Professionals Forum, the brainchild of stockbroker Charles Stanley. This time around, brewery Shepherd Neame had been roped in to give the budding stars of the financial world some pointers on the world of beer, ranging from a light Japanese lager to robust traditional English ales.
All good fun and a pleasant alternative to the usual corporate wine-tasting tips, though The Capitalist isn’t sure about Shepherd Neame’s latest product – a beer the firm has developed specifically as a “toasting beer”. Herbal undertones or not, champagne probably doesn’t have to worry about being knocked off its perch any time soon.
ALL THAT JAZZ
Finally, a heads up for jazz aficionados working in and around the Docklands, who can look forward to this year’s free Canary Wharf Jazz Festival next month.
The line up has now been announced and includes Latin jazz pianist and composer Alex Wilson, R&B vocalist Ruby Turner and funk legend Pee Wee Ellis, performing over three days between 13 and 15 August.
