SUMMER SALES
Beausejour completes Blues trio
BIRMINGHAM CITY boss Alex McLeish put the seal on a productive deadline day with the capture of Chilean international winger Jean Beausejour on a three-year deal.
The 26-year-old left-sided player arrives at St Andrews for an undisclosed fee from Club America in Mexico.
He joins former Arsenal midfielder Alexander Hleb, who revealed he turned down offers from Tottenham and Liverpool to join on a season-long loan deal from Barcelona, and defender Martin Jiranek, who arrives for an undisclosed fee from Spartak Moscow.
Indeed, McLeish describes luring Belarus international Hleb from the Camp Nou to St Andrews as a “dream”.
He said: “Hleb is a top quality player – one who at one stage we’d only actually dreamed about really.”
Striker Marcus Bent has joined Wolves on loan.
Gudjohnsen and Pennant back
STOKE CITY boss Tony Pulis has clinched the loan signings of former Premier League pair Eidur Gudjohnsen and Jermaine Pennant as he strengthened his squad with four new additions.
Ex-Arsenal and Liverpool winger Pennant, 27, returns to England from a spell in Spain with Real Zaragoza, while Gudjohnsen, the former Chelsea and Spurs front man, revealed he turned down an offer from Fulham to join the Potters from Monaco.
Pulis also signed midfielder Marc Wilson from Portsmouth in a deal that saw Liam Lawrence and Dave Kitson go to Fratton Park, while Salif Diao returns to the Britannia Stadium on an ambassadorial role.
Konchesky completes Reds move
LIVERPOOL boss Roy Hodgson has raided his former club Fulham to sign full-back Paul Konchesky on a four-year deal.
Konchesky, 29, arrives in an estimated £4m deal which sees 18-year-old Finnish striker Dalla Valle and 19-year-old Swedish winger Kacaniklic moving in the other direction.
The deal paved the way for Emiliano Insua to join Galatasaray on a season-long loan.
l West Ham boss Avram Grant admitted he was in talks with Liverpool over a possible £10m swap deal involving Carlton Cole and Ryan Babel but no agreement could be reached.
Schwarzer deal a no-go
GOALKEEPER Mark Schwarzer will continue as a Fulham player until January at least after no deadline day deal was pushed through with Arsenal.
The Gunners had two bids rejected for the 37-year-old Australian – the latter a £4m offer – but Cottagers boss Mark Hughes was reluctant to let him go until a replacement was found.
The Gunners, though, have let left-back Armand Traore join Juventus on a season-long loan.
Martinez adds two
WIGAN boss Roberto Martinez has landed Chelsea striker Franco di Santo for a fee of around £3m.
The 21-year-old Argentinian has penned a three-year deal at the DW Stadium after spending last season on loan at Blackburn.
Martinez has also landed young Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley on a season-long loan.
l Blackpool have completed a double deadline swoop with the signings of Leicester’s DJ Campbell and Matt Phillips from Wycombe for £325,000.
Yobo departs Everton
EVERTON defender Joseph Yobo has joined Turkish club Fenerbahce on a season-loan long with an option to buy.
The Nigerian centre back has slipped out of contention at Goodison Park since the return to fitness of Phil Jagielka and arrival of John Heitinga.
