Struggling Prior needs more time to adapt to opening, says Strauss
ENGLAND captain Andrew Strauss insists Matt Prior will remain at the top of the order despite successive ducks as Australia moved 3-0 ahead in the best of seven ODI series yesterday.
Test gloveman Prior was recalled to the 50 over set-up last week, at the expense of Steven Davies, following a near three-year absence, just in time for World Cup selection.
Prior has, however, failed to trouble the scorers in each of his innings since his return to the side as England continue to struggle to find the right opening combination.
But after the comprehensive four- wicket defeat in Sydney, Strauss remained adamant that Prior is the right man for the job.
He said: “I don’t think [it will change] I think I will be opening with him,” Strauss said. “We’ve got to give him an opportunity to get used to the role again. We’re still happy with his capabilities at the top of the order.”
