Strauss targets series victory over adaptable South Africa
ENGLAND captain Andrew Strauss insists his side can be confident of a series success over South Africa, even if the tourists can be relied upon to successfully adapt to the unwanted weather conditions.
South Africa have completed just two matches since the start of their tour but their captain, Graeme Smith, is adamant that their preparations have not been undermined and Strauss believes the very same.
“Our bowling attack’s record speaks for itself,” said Strauss. “I am very comfortable with our seamers and with our bowling attack, full stop. I think it’s a match for any side in the world and I think they have proved that continuously over the last three or four years.
“[But] I’ve always felt South Africa have adapted to English conditions as well as any other team. We expect them to be a very stern challenge.”
As expected, England have not included Kevin Pietersen in their 30-man squad for the World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka, despite indications that he may consider returning from his retirement from limited overs cricket.
