Starbucks: Mobile ordering of coffee via app to be trialled in one secret location
Coffee lovers in one lucky city will get to test out a new service from Starbucks which lets you place an order from wherever you are for pick up in store using a smartphone app as the coffee chain begins trialing mobile ordering.
It’s a major step for Starbucks in its plans to introduce the mobile ordering service which it first announced at the beginning of the year.
The Seattle-based coffee giant has chosen one location as a test market for the service, Re/code reports, but its whereabouts were not disclosed.
It’s the first step in what Starbucks chief digital officer Adam Brotman said was an ambition to roll it out the service to everyone.
The expansion of its mobile payment would build upon the existing Starbucks app which lets customers pay in store. Around 10-15 per cent of transactions in the US are currently made using the app.
