Starbucks drive-thrus to create thousands of jobs
COFFEE chain Starbucks has unveiled plans to launch 200 new drive-thru stores across Britain over the next five years, creating 5,000 new jobs.
The US giant, which currently has nine drive-thrus in the UK and opened its first outlet in Cardiff in 2008, said it was responding to strong demand for better quality coffee on the road.
Around half of the drive-thrus will be licensed to petrol forecourt retailer Euro Garages, while 100 will be operated by Starbucks.
Prime Minister David Cameron welcomed the announcement and said: “I am glad to see continued investment and job creation in the private sector.”
Kris Engskov of Starbucks UK said the stores, which will be mainly in the Midlands and north of England, would create jobs that “particularly benefit young job-seekers at a time of record youth unemployment”.
