Sri Lanka captain Dilshan to miss Rose Bowl decider
SRI LANKA captain Tillakaratne Dilshan will miss the decisive third Test against England with a broken thumb.
The series is delicately poised ahead of the final match of the series, which starts tomorrow at the Rose Bowl, with England leading 1-0 thanks to their miraculous win in Cardiff.
Dilshan (right), who won the man-of-the-match award at Lord’s for his first innings 193, will be absent from his side’s attempt to square the series as a result of the injury he suffered at the hands of Chris Tremlett’s bowling.
“He definitely won’t be playing,” said team manager Anura Tennekoon, who also confirmed Kumar Sangakkara will captain the side in his absence .
“The main reason we’ve kept him out of this Test match is that, had he played and got another blow while fielding on that thumb, he might have been out for the rest of the tour.
“So as a precautionary measure, we have kept him out.”
Meanwhile, England seamer James Anderson claims to be fit and ready to make his return after missing the Lord’s Test with a side injury.
The England selectors must now decide who makes way for Anderson, with Steven Finn the most likely candidate to step aside.
