Sports Direct boss Dave Forsey heads to court today
Sports Direct boss Dave Forsey is heading to Chesterfield magistrates court today, over the company's handling of the USC administration.
Forsey is charged with offences under the Trade Union and Labour Relations Act, which requires employers to give notice of redundancies in advance of them happening.
Staff working at USC were allegedly given just 15 minutes' warning before the fast fashion chain went into administration in January last year. The business was bought out by another Sports Direct business, Republic, just a week later.
In total 88 staff lost their roles at the Dundonald, South Ayrshire, depot.
In October, staff won a legal battle to recoup redundancy pay, which was expected to equate to thousands of pounds per person.
The Mike Ashley-owned business has been coming under increasing pressure regarding its treatment of staff, with Ashley himself committing to a review of conditions as the retailer agreed to paying minimum wage at the start of the year.
Ashley has been warned he faces being found in contempt of parliament if he continues to dodge a public appearance in front of MPs over working conditions. He has until 21 March to respond to a letter from the business, innovation and skills (BIS) committee.
