Speedy CBRE team crush the corporate competition in Tower 42’s Vertical Rush
TV personalities may have won the adrenalin fuelled race to the top of Tower 42 earlier this week, but one City firm also rose to the challenge.
Five members of staff from real estate advisor CBRE were crowned champions of the annual Vertical Rush challenge on Wednesday. The sprint up every floor of Tower 42, precisely 920 steps, is about five times the number of steps in Covent Garden Tube, one of the deepest in the capital.
The winning team, calling themselves the very original "Stairway to Heaven" was made up by colleagues from CBRE’s advisory, retail, construction and valuation desks.
What Stairway to Heaven lacked in originality, they made up for in speed. Joe Bahsoon, Charlie Nairn, Sam Carson, Matthew Edmonds and Freddie Morris from the firm managed to complete the challenge in 30 minutes and 45 seconds, leagues ahead of the other corporate teams taking part.
Meanwhile, the celebs were streaks ahead. TV presenter and marathon-champ Nell McAndrew won the fastest female title and was the overall winner with a race time of 8 minutes 17 seconds, and Calum Best came in second place and beat all the boys with a time of 8 minutes 56 seconds.
Luckily for the CBRE boys Tower 42, owned by South African property tycoon Nathan Kirsh, recently became the only London skyscraper that offers 4G signal all the way to the top floor, so no one missed any important e-mails.
