South Pacific tsunami warning after earthquake strikes Vanuatu coast
A Tsunami warning was issued after an earthquake in the south pacific.
Researchers had initially estimated the earthquake at magnitude 7.2 magnitude which struck near Vanuatu, a Pacific island off the north east coast of Australia. It has now been downgraded to 6.9.
The US Geological Survey recorded the earthquake on Sunday morning and had warned of a resulting Tsunami with locations 300km from the epicentre of the earthquake at risk.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said the threat has now largely passed, but warned coastal areas in the region to stay alert, with tidal fluctuations expected over the next few hours.

The area is prone to earthquakes and seismic activity as a result of the convergence of the Australia and Pacific plates to the east of the Australian coast.
There have been no reports of damage.
