Solicitor in hot oil with regulator for hitting a member of the public with a frying pan
The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) has rebuked a lawyer after he “struck” a member of the public with a frying pan while on holiday.
Kamaljit Singh Bains, an in-house solicitor at EEF Limited, became involved in an argument with a member of the public during a holiday in Wales, before he “struck them around the head with a frying pan,” according to the SRA which published an outcome of the incident this week.
Bains was arrested at the scene, which took place in early October, but the victim, who was not injured, did not support a criminal prosecution for assault.
Instead the solicitor, who was admitted to the profession in 2009, was handed a £1,760 fine after pleading guilty in November 2020 and ordered to pay an additional £600 for the costs of the SRA’s investigation.
