Slow-cookers, bee houses and Nutribullets are the most popular gifts on wedding lists now, John Lewis reckons
Newlyweds are shunning traditional wedding gifts like toasters in favour of fancy gadgets and toys, according to new research.
Couples are choosing to upgrade what they already have or indulge in items that suit their lifestyle – with smart TVs, fitness, health products and kitchen gadgets at the top of most contemporary couples' lists.
Research from high-end retailer John Lewis has found that nowadays couples preparing for their big day have started asking for things they want more than what they really need, compared to five years ago when practical basics were at the top of the agenda.
The retailer found the items most asked for on wedding lists in 2015 are juicers, digital slow cookers and wireless soundsystems, while back in 2010 the hottest gifts included toasters and hand mixers.
The top-selling quirky wedding gifts last year were bee houses, tents and dumbbells.
The Crock-pot digital slow cooker was the number one choice in the cookware category, while other popular food preparation items include the NutriBullet and the George Foreman Grill, suggesting quick, healthy food is more of a priority for today’s couples
