A slice of Detroit in the West End
Shinola, the resuscitated brand breathing new life into the blue-collar artisanal skills of America’s heartland, has landed in the heart of the buzzy Carnaby Street shopping precinct. Situated at 13 Newburgh Street, Shinola’s full range of “utility luxe” (our term) includes everything from watches (from £410) to leather goods, journals and even a selection of beautifully retro Filson bicycles in the basement.
Conceived with the belief that their products should be built to last, Shinola sits at the forefront of a new wave of industry in beleaguered Mo’Town. It is the first company in decades to produce watches at scale in America and has even brought master watchmakers over from Switzerland to train staff at its factory in General Motors’ old research lab.
