Simpson-Daniel and Corbisiero called up
ENGLAND have called up London Irish prop Alex Corbisiero and Gloucester wing James Simpson-Daniel to their squad ahead of Saturday’s RBS 6 Nations clash with Italy.
Corbisiero (right) has replaced the Wasps loose-head Tim Payne, who has returned to his club for treatment on a sternum injury.
Simpson-Daniel joined up with the senior squad as cover for Nick Abendanon, who is struggling with a toe problem.
Both men played a part in the Saxons’ thumping 45-17 win over Italy A at Worcester last week, a game in which Simpson-Daniel, who won his last senior international cap four years ago, scored two tries in.
Meanwhile, stand-in England captain Mike Tindall has urged his side not to get carried away with the opening RBS 6 Nations victory over Wales.
The Red Rose are now well placed to claim their first title since 2003 with home fixtures against Italy, France and Scotland coming up in succession.
But Tindall warned England not to let their standards slip against the Azzurri.
“You hope it will be an important win in the team’s development – but we mustn’t get ahead of ourselves,” said Tindall. “We have to use the win as a stepping stone. Italy won’t lie down to let us win. We have to constantly demand performances of ourselves.”
