Silverstone close to deal
SILVERSTONE’S managing director insists a deal to stage the British Grand Prix for at least the next 10 years is on the brink of being clinched.
Formula One chief Bernie Ecclestone has warned that any agreement to keep the race on the calendar must be done by 9 December, and Richard Phillips is confident it will be finalised sooner rather than later.
“I don’t think there are any real stumbling blocks, we’re going through the last details of the deal,” said Phillips.
“I’m pretty convinced that it will be run at Silverstone next year. You can come to high level agreements quickly, but the devil is in the detail. We’re very, very close.”
The British Grand Prix will disappear from the F1 season indefinitely if Silverstone do not agree a deal, following the collapse of Donington’s contract to stage the race.
