Shoe repair business Timpson launches its thousandth store
FAMILY-OWNED shoe repair business Timpson is opening its thousandth shop today in Wrexham, North Wales, as the company’s expansion plans gather momentum.
Timpson will be renting the space at a Tesco site, a spokesperson from the supermarket chain told City A.M.
The unit is part of a joint venture between Timpson and Tesco. It will provide services such as dry cleaning, key cutting, shoe and watch repairs.
Timpson has been working with both Tesco and rival Sainsbury’s to open stores on sites away from the high street, in order to attract more customers.
Chief executive John Timpson has said that he plans to open at least 150 new branches this year.
Timpson, which was founded in Manchester in 1865, has acquired a number of other companies in recent years, including photo processing chain Snappy Snaps. It has also expanded to offer other services including watch repair and locksmiths.
