Shard Capital boss puts brokers off their vol-au-vents with blistering speech ahead of fifth birthday dinner
A very happy birthday to the brokers at Shard Capital – the firm celebrated its fifth anniversary with a glittering bash at the Tower of London last weekend.
The Capitalist is told spirits were high – but it seems that chief executive James Lewis may have put his partners off their vol-au-vents ahead of the big night.
Honouring its partnership with Walking with the Wounded, Lewis sent a third of the entire workforce to the lake District the week before for a gruelling feat of endurance and fitness – The Cumbrian Challenge. Participants walked up to 31.5km over extremely testing terrain, and the broking boss spared no details when he explained how he and the rest of the staff had earned their birthday dinner.
"I’m proud of the company’s fantastic response to the Cumbrian Challenge", Lewis said. "Spending the day walking in the stunning Lake District setting, in the sunshine, helped make lighter work of the rugged terrain and the odd blister."
Perhaps leave the talk of blisters until the meal has ended, next time.
