Several people have been injured in an axe attack at the main train station in Dusseldorf, Germany.
Various reports estimate at least five people have been wounded following an attack which happened around 9pm local time, with one person reported to have been seriously injured.
Meanwhile, police have made an arrest, but it has not been ruled out that there may be other suspects. The weapon used in the attack is understood to have been recovered.
No motive for the attack has been reported.
A station attendant told the Bild:
We were standing on the track, waiting for the train. The train came, and suddenly someone jumped out with an axe, hit the people. There was blood everywhere. I have experienced a lot, but I have never experienced it.

It is understood the station, which serves 250,000 passengers daily, has been closed and trains are no longer stopping there.
The attack comes just months after a truck was deliberately driven into a crowd at a Berlin Christmas market, killing 12 people and injuring 56 more.
