Serco UK and Europe boss steps down to accelerate renewal plan
OUTSOURCING firm Serco said yesterday its head of UK and Europe would step down as the firm, currently under criminal investigation, looks to win back the trust of the UK government.
In a statement the firm announced UK and Europe operations chief Andrew White will take over from Jeremy Stafford on an interim basis.
“Serco has been working hard to refresh its relationship with central government in the UK,” Serco said, adding that the change in leadership would, “accelerate and consolidate that process.”
The UK government suspended Serco and rival G4S from signing any new contracts with it until the result of a cabinet office review into claims it charged the government for electronic tags for criminals who had never been tagged, were dead or were in jail.
Last month Serco’s chief executive Chris Hyman resigned from the firm.
The Serious Fraud Office is also investigating allegations that Serco overcharged for tagging contracts.
