Senior banker spins wheels of steel in the City
HOW MANY budding DJs do you know? Chances are you might know a fair few. This is what Ali Miraj, a senior banker is, er, banking on in setting up Decks In The City – a monthly night in The Horse and Groom in Shoreditch that invites secret DJs from the financial and creative industries to play a set.
“I wanted to give people in the City and creative industries a chance to showcase their talents and also to try and break down the barriers and bring people from Shoreditch and the City together,” Miraj, who is director of syndicated finance for a leading European bank (Google him if you want to know which) told us.
Last night was the inaugural event, and The Capitalist headed down to throw some shapes. All of the acts were from the financial services, save one curious inclusion, ex-Arsenal and Dutch international footballer Glenn Helder (who flew in especially to play with his brother Marc, a City market risk manager).
The pub rocked until the early hours with Miraj playing the 12am – 2am set, despite flying to the States to give a talk at Harvard on government support for infrastructure projects at 11.30am this morning. That’ll be one tired head.
