Saudis eye bid for Manchester United in attempt to beat Abu Dhabi’s Manchester City on the pitch
Manchester United’s New-York listed shares have surged amid talks Saudi Arabia’s crown prince could launch a multi-billion pound bid for the footballing powerhouse.
Mohammad bin Salman, the leader under fire over the death of a Saudi journalist, is reportedly considering a £3bn takeover of the club from the American Glazer family.

Shares in the team rose over five per cent to $22.39 last night following reports in the Sun.
The newspaper cited sources saying the crown prince wants to rival his neighbours in Abu Dhabi, who bought Manchester City in 2008.

The sources said bin Salman is ready to allow an individual to bid on the team, or throw the country’s huge resources behind a takeover to buy it outright.
Around one fifth of the club was floated in New York in 2012.
