Samsung Unpacked 2019: Your guide to the launch event as Samsung prepares to unveil Galaxy S10
Samsung is gearing up to unveil a spate of new smartphones and wearable gadgets at its Unpacked 2019 event tomorrow night, but several leaks might have taken the wind out of its sails.
The South Korean tech giant is expected to launch three new smartphones at a dual launch event in San Francisco and London, including its next flagship model the Galaxy S10.
A 30-second TV advertisement that ran in Norway last night showed off the S10 and also Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Bud headphones. Meanwhile multiple leaks have shown Samsung will also be launching an S10 Plus, a smaller, budget-style S10E, and potentially its upcoming foldable phone.
Here's what we know so far.
Galaxy S10, S10 Plus and S10E
Countless leaks in multiple formats, some even from Samsung itself have shown the upcoming Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus will have a triple camera and an ultrasonic fingerprint reader in the screen rather than on the back of the phone, and two-way wireless charging.
It will have a USB-C charging port, a 3.5mm headphone jack connector and will be powered by Qualcomm chips. For a front-facing camera, the S10 and S10 Plus will feature a hole-punch display rather than a notch.
The S10 Plus is said to have a 6.4 inch display, compared to the S10's 6.1 inches. While the S10 will be available with up to 512GB of storage, the S10 Plus will have up to 1TB.
The S10E will be designed to fit a similar niche as Apple's iPhone XR, allowing consumers to get their hands on a new phone without splashing out for fancy tech updates.
The S10E is said to have a smaller 5.8 inch display, and the screen will be flat rather than curved. It will also come in a range of colours, including green, black, white and blue.
Galaxy X… or is it F?
Samsung's upcoming foldable smartphone, which it teased back in November on a very shadowy stage, is said to be making an appearance at tomorrow's event.
Some have called it the Galaxy X, while others have called it the Galaxy F. Samsung itself has prompted rumours that the formal unveiling will be tomorrow, using advertisements for the event with the phrase: "The future unfolds".
The flexible screen, known as the Infinity Flex Display, will enable the phone to be used as both a smartphone and a tablet. Reports from Techradar suggest the phone will be exclusive to the EE network in the UK, much like Apple's first iPhone products were exclusive.
It's also rumoured to be pricey, fetching up to £1,500 for the top-tier storage model.
Wearables
Samsung is said to be launching a range of new wearable products tomorrow, challenging Apple's title for the sector as it becomes one of the fastest-growing parts of its business.
The Galaxy Watch Active is rumoured to be a re-design of Samsung's existing smartwatches for fitness, including a new operating display and a rotating bezel.
Meanwhile the Galaxy Buds, Samsung's answer to Apple's Airpods, will come with a wireless charging case. The leaked TV advert showed the Buds being charged using the S10's two-way wireless charging capability.
