Samp want Chelsea flop Shevchenko
Chelsea flop Andriy Shevchenko has been offered a way out of Stamford Bridge by Italian club Sampdoria.
The Blues’ £30m record signing has scored just 22 goals in 76 appearances since joining from AC Milan two years ago. Milan have repeatedly been linked with a move to bring one of their best loved players back to the club, but Sampdoria say they could take Shevchenko on a season-long loan, as long as they can agree on his salary.
“Sheva would be happy to join us, but there are problems around his wages,” said general manager Beppe Marotta. “We have a way to resolve our problems up front with a figure able to stir up the crowd as well as put the ball in the back of the net. Many top class players like Sampdoria and a deal is entirely plausible.”
New Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari is looking to slash his playing squad, and Shevchenko, 31, is a prime candidate to be shipped out.
Real Madrid forward Robinho, meanwhile, has been strongly linked with a move to Chelsea, but the Brazilian insisted yesterday he wants to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu. The former Santos player said: “I hope to remain at Real Madrid this year.”
