Sainsbury’s unveils Christmas ad celebrating families finally coming together
Sainsbury’s festive advert ‘A Christmas to Savour’ aired for the first time this evening on ITV Networks during the Angela Black Special.
The advert celebrates the enjoyment of friends and family coming together after last minute lockdown restrictions scuppered Christmas plans for many Brits last year.
To encourage everyone to savour the moment this year the advert displays a freeze frame of a Christmas dinner before zooming in on individual family members. Etta James’ ‘At Last’ can be heard playing in the background while a voiceover from Steven Fry is also featured in the commercial.
Radha Davies, Director of Brand Communications and Creative, at Sainsbury’s commented on the advert. She said: “with so many of us unable to spend Christmas with our loved one’s last year we, along with the nation, are really excited to fully celebrate Christmas once more.
“One of the true highlights of the festive season is the much-anticipated Christmas dinner. Whilst the food is important, it’s also about what that meal represents, spending quality time with loved ones, catching up, enjoying a delicious meal and above all, having fun together,” she added.
The Christmas ad, which was created by global advertising agency, Wieden+Kennedy, aired on TV for the first time this evening and launches in cinemas on 22 November, with a 20” cut also shown across TV and on social.
Its first airing comes as Tesco’s Christmas commercial causes controversy for featuring a Santa who has a Covid passport to prove he has been double jabbed. Antivaxxers took to Twitter to protest the ‘fascist’ advert, causing #BoycottTesco to trend on the social media platform.
