Saga is latest consumer brand to seek a legal services licence
SAGA has become the latest consumer brand to apply to become an alternative business structure (ABS), as it seeks to extend the legal services it can offer its over-50s customers.
On Monday Saga launched a range of legal services including will writing and conveyancing – offered at a set price rather than solicitors’ usual hourly rates.
If it wins approval from the Solicitors Regulation Authority, it will be able to run the new division in-house.
Saga Legal Services is a tie-up with insurance specialist Parabis Law, which in August became the 20th company to be granted an ABS licence since the law market was liberalised last year.
Saga first launched legal services back in 2010, when it hired Parabis-owned Cogent Law to advise on legal issues related to its consumer products. If the ABS licence is granted, it plans to expand the advice it offers in the future.
