Ryder Cup win is highlight of Poulter’s career
EUROPE’S Ian Poulter is adamant that Sunday evening’s Ryder Cup victory has guaranteed contentment beyond the end of his career, even if he fails to win another tournament.
Poulter was Europe’s most influential performer and at one point secured five straight birdies in Sunday’s staggering comeback after winning all four of his matches at Medinah Country Club. He has now won 12 and lost only three Ryder Cup matches in his entire career but despite being one of the world’s finest players and one that is yet to win a Major title, he insists that that is something which is no longer a concern.
“These may be my majors and that’s fine,” said Poulter of Europe’s recovery from 10-6 down to a 14½-13½ victory. “I have more pride and passion in winning the Ryder Cup than winning a major.
“I would love to win one, win them all, don’t get me wrong, and I’ve been close. But if I don’t win another golf tournament, Sunday is going to go down as the highlight of my career.
“To be part of a team is special. We created history. You are an individual for the most part. It’s only Seve Trophy and Ryder Cup that you get to spend any time with players and be a team. It’s nice to be part of that.”
