Russians lead army of oil rich shoppers in UK
The UK has seen a rise in international shoppers from oil rich countries, according to new data.
In July there was an 81 per cent increase in shoppers from the Russian Federation, 60 per cent more from the Middle East and 38 per from Nigeria, compared to the same period last year.
According to the figures from financial services firm Global Blue the Russians’ favourite stores are boutiques in bond Street.
Meanwhile, Nigerian customers are snapping up expensive jewellery, men’s fashion and electronic goods.
Nigel Dasler, VP of Global Blue, said: “Having witnessed the steady arrival of Russian shoppers to the UK over the past four years, we have noticed a definite peak.”
A Harrods spokesman said: “Russian visitors constitute a well established proportion of Harrods international customer base and numbers continue to grow significantly every year.”
