The runners and riders to take over from Dalton Philips as CEO
“EXPECT an ex-Tesco employee – there are plenty around,” one analyst joked yesterday when asked who would take over from Dalton Philips as Morrisons boss.
After several management changes at Tesco over the last three years, there are certainly a few among the list of potential candidates. One of them is not Philip Clarke, who chairman Andy Higginson has ruled out.
Analysts said David Potts, who used to run Tesco’s Asia business, was a strong contender for the role. Richard Brasher, ex-Tesco UK boss, is also seen as a potential successor – if he could be persuaded to leave South Africa where he runs retailer Pick n Pay.
The group could also look to Australia for its next boss. John Durkan, head of Australian grocer Coles has been tipped for the job as has Ian McLeod, a former Asda executive, commercial director of Coles’ parent group Wesfarmers.
Also named are former Thomas Cook boss Harriet Green and Greggs boss Roger Whiteside.
