Ronaldo out-guns Bale in Wales as Madrid claim Super Cup glory
STAR-TURN Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice to overshadow Gareth Bale’s homecoming as the headline acts of Real Madrid dispatched Sevilla to lift the European Super Cup at the Cardiff City Stadium last night.
The Champions League winners dominated the all-Spanish tie with Ronaldo netting a goal in each half, taking his personal tally against Sevilla to 18 in just 12 matches.
Ronaldo formed part of a £255m strike force, lining up alongside Bale, Karim Benzema and Colombia World Cup star James Rodriquez, as fellow new boy Toni Kroos started in midfield.
Bale was denied a goal on his return to Wales in stoppage time when Sevilla goalkeeper Beto parried the 25-year-old’s powerful drive.
