Rolls-Royce “exploring opportunities” to not cut jobs
Rolls-Royce says it is exploring ways to “mitigate the need for compulsory redundancies wherever possible”.
The engine maker, which announced its intention to cut a tenth of its 6,000-person marine workforce in May, said in a statement it has been “engaged in constructive dialogue with union representatives”, and that it has “Made significant progress” with them.
The process with employee representatives remains constructive. It is never an easy decision to make changes and propose reductions in our workforce, but it is a sign of the increasingly competitive market in which we operate.
The company has suffered at the hands of falling oil prices over the last year, and released a series of profit warnings during that time, along with its first earnings decline in over 10 years.
Last month's announcement was additional to a plan revealed in November, which said the group workforce would be reduced by 2,600 roles, or five per cent of the total.
