Rojo gets green light for United
MANCHESTER United are set to complete the £16m signing of Argentina defender Marcos Rojo from Sporting Lisbon, the Portuguese club announced last night.
Out-of-favour United winger Nani will return to his former club on a season-long loan as part of the deal, Sporting added.
Rojo, a key part of the Argentina team that reached this summer’s World Cup final, is expected to play on the left of a three-man central defence in new United manager Louis van Gaal’s 3-5-2 system.
The 24-year-old publicly apologised to Sporting this week for agitating for the transfer to United, having only moved to Portugal from Spartak Moscow last summer. The club stand to receive 20 per cent if United sell Rojo for more than £18.5m.
