Robshaw talks up Easter recall
ENGLAND captain Chris Robshaw insists Harlequins team-mate Nick Easter remains one of the best practitioners of his craft, adding fuel to the fire of suggestions the veteran No8 could still have a place on the international stage.
Easter crossed the line and carried the fight to three-time champions Leinster during Sunday’s 24-18 European Champions Cup win over the Pro 12 side at the Stoop.
Quins boss Conor O’Shea talked up Easter’s chances of an England recall in the wake of the victory, believing the back-row forward should be figuring on head coach Stuart Lancaster’s radar.
Easter has 47 international caps but has not featured for England since the 2011 World Cup, and Robshaw maintains the 36-year-old’s vintage is improving with time.
“He is one of the best No8s in the country,” said Robshaw. “He’s a great player and he’s a great man to have alongside you. He’s a terrific ball-player and he seems to be getting better with age.”
Robshaw was replaced as Quins skipper by Joe Marler in the summer but led the side out against Leinster on his 200th appearance for the club following four weeks away with England. He added: “Coming back to the club, a lot of questions were asked about if we were ready and mentally fit, but these are the games you want to be out there playing.”
