RMT in Tube strike talks
TALKS TO prevent strikes on the London Underground and Docklands Light Railway (DLR) took place yesterday at conciliation service Acas as rail union RMT met Tube Lines and Serco.
Platform and station staff on the DLR, which carries commuters to and from Canary Wharf, are due to walk out for three days starting Wednesday 23 June.
This coincides with the first of two planned 48-hour strikes by maintenance workers at contractor Tube Lines on the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly underground lines, in a dispute over pay, jobs and working conditions.
A spokeswoman for Tube Lines said talks were continuing with rail union RMT in a bid to reach a settlement.
“We have offered a revised pay deal so we are hopeful that the RMT will accept and that the strike action can be averted,” she said. “No agreement has yet been reached but certainly we are pushing for it.”
RMT general secretary Bob Crow has said that Mayor Boris Johnson needs to take responsibility for the “mess” that Tube Lines has left behind.
