Rihanna denied trip into Orbit for reality show
GLITTERATI have wasted no time in asking to hire out London’s most eye-catching new landmark, the £23m ArcelorMittal Orbit in the Olympic Park.
And perhaps it should come as no surprise that chart-topping pop star Rihanna, known for her love of the capital, was right at the front of the queue. The Capitalist hears the Barbadian begged to use the 115m high statue’s two viewing platforms as a set for her new fashion-themed television show, Styled To Rock.
However her request to film a catwalk show overlooking east London came before the Orbit’s operators had the green light to open its doors, leaving them with no choice but to turn her down.
Rihanna was by no means the only one disappointed by the decision, however. It is understood male staff at the Anish Kapoor and Cecil Balmond-designed structure were distraught at missing the chance to see the clothes-averse singer and a gaggle of models at close quarters.
The Orbit has been an instant hit with the public, with all tickets to go up the tower during the Games already sold out. So great has demand been that operators hope to make new tickets available. Those who were lucky enough to bag tickets for Saturday night will have a unique view of Usain Bolt and Co scorching the men’s 100m sprint.
