Ride of the Lions crew feel the pride on Triple Crown charity bike ride
Cycling from Melbourne to Sydney with the match ball between the Lions’ 2nd and 3rd test matches last year wasn’t quite enough for the team behind Ride of the Lions – the intrepid crew of ex-Lions rugby players wanted to do it again this year (but thankfully in cooler climes).
This Friday some 40 riders will leave Twickenham, heading for the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Aviva Stadium in Dublin before ending at Murrayfield in Edinburgh – they’re calling it the Triple Crown and it’s all in aid of Walking with the Wounded and the Lions’ Charitable Trust.
Ex-Lion Peter Winterbottom (who spent time in the City, broking at Tullett, BCG Partners and Creditex) is leading the ride: “Australia was a killer,” he told The Capitalist. “This time I wanted to do something reasonably testing but that wouldn’t kill us. After all we’re not really built for cycling.” Fair enough…
