Retail sales and jobs data expected to prove positive – The week ahead
RETAIL sales data and employment figures due out this week are expected to show improvement, while some of the UK’s biggest brands will update the market over the next five days.
The British Retail Consortium (BRC) retail sales monitor for June, out tomorrow, is expected to show healthy year-on-year retail sales growth in June.
Data are also likely to show that consumer price inflation was stable at just 0.1 per cent in June, thereby avoiding a renewed dip into deflation.
Meanwhile, data out on Wednesday are expected to show that the labour market continues to improve but at a reduced rate compared to earlier in the year.
On the corporate calendar, Sthree reports today, while ITE Group and Page Group will publish numbers tomorrow.
On Wednesday, Burberry, Halfords, Intermediate Capital Group and Severn Trent will update the market.
A bumper day of results on Thursday will see reports from Dixons Carphone, Sports Direct, Hilton Food Group, Experian and Schlumberger.
Updates from B&M European Value Retail and DCC will round off the week.
