Eddie Redmayne is a son of the City – dad Richard Redmayne is “an absolute gent” and chairman of Cantor Fitzgerald Europe’s corporate finance division
Although Eddie Redmayne was the toast of Hollywood on Sunday night as he picked up his Oscar for Best Actor, mention the Redmayne name in the City and it’s not Eddie that springs to mind.
Richard, Eddie’s father, is as familiar with the Square Mile as Eddie now is with the Academy Award’s red carpet.
Redmayne Snr, 78, is chairman of Cantor Fitzgerald Europe’s corporate finance division. In his long and illustrious career, he has also worked for Seymour Pierce and HSBC, and his name now commands the utmost respect among London’s pin-striped suits.
Richard Darby, a partner at Buchanan, told City A.M.: “He’s an absolute City gent – completely reliable, extremely polite and courteous, and a pleasure to deal with. In the City, his name has become synonymous with honesty and straightforwardness.”
Rapidly advancing on octogenarianism, Redmayne Snr is a self-confessed workaholic and plans never to retire. He once told a recruiter at Seymour Pierce: “At 67, I’m the oldest guy at HSBC. I’ll come join you as long as you never fire me – all my friends who have retired have died within two years.”
Let’s hope we’ll be seeing Eddie for years in his chosen career too.
