Redknapp issues wage warning as he sets sights on Cole reunion
QUEENS Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp admits he is trying to lure former England midfielder Joe Cole to the west London strugglers.
Redknapp brought Cole through the ranks while West Ham boss and believes that the 31-year-old, who is out of favour at Liverpool, can help hoist the Hoops off the bottom of the Premier League.
“I’ve got a lot of time for Joe, as a player and a person,” said Redknapp. “He’s a good lad to have around your football club, a good player. I’d like to bring him here if we could. We’ll see what happens.”
Redknapp warned that QPR would not be willing to spend big on Cole, or match his £90,000 per week wages at Anfield.
“The deal would have to be right for the club,” added the former Tottenham manager. “We couldn’t do a deal with what his contract is at Liverpool. We’d have to try to find a way of doing a deal with Liverpool, if they’re willing to let him go.”
