Recuperating Woods resigned to needing Ryder Cup captain’s pick
WORLD No1 Tiger Woods admits he is no closer to knowing when he will return from back surgery and that he is likely to need a captain’s pick to play in September’s Ryder Cup.
Woods has not played since March, when he accepted that he needed an operation on a pinched nerve, and having missed last month’s Masters remains a doubt for the three remaining Majors.
“My recovery is a very slow process,” he said. “Some people heal up in three months, some people take four months, some people take longer. I just don’t know. I hope to be back sometime this summer, but I just don’t know when.
“I’d also like to play in the FedExCup Play-offs and the Ryder Cup. But obviously, I’m going to have to play really well to earn points to get into the play-offs and play my way onto to the team or have to rely on a captain’s pick.”
Europe defend the trophy against the United States at Gleneagles on 26-28 September.
Fourteen-time Major winner Woods added that he is yet to practice full swings since surgery, but has been able to chip and putt.
