[Re: Economy is being knocked off course, yesterday]
Both the Treasury and the Bank of England continue to fret about the dangers of deflation. I just wish that the British economy had such a problem – the result of quantitative easing and very low interest rates has been the debasement of our currency. This might have propped up failing banks but the longer term damage to the economy has been severe.

[Re: Should NATO negotiate with the Taliban unconditionally?, yesterday]
Unconditional NATO-Taliban negotiations would put Afghanistan in an extremely precarious position. The US and its allies have made a series of serious mistakes, but the worst mistake of all would be to talk with Taliban. It would send the signal that the US, the NATO and the Afghani government had already lost the war.
