I have five rides on Gold Cup day and things get underway with the Triumph (1.30) where I’m on PETITE PARISIENNE for Willie [Mullins].
She was impressive the last day, but I’m not sure the Irish juveniles are quite as good as the English.
THE GAME CHANGER has been working well and he goes for the County Hurdle (2.05) on his first start for Gordon [Elliott].
Handicaps like this are a lottery, but he was third in a Galway Hurdle and that is very strong form. I won’t be hitting the front too soon and we’ll come with one long run.
NO MORE HEROES’ form was franked when Shaneshill ran such a good race in the Supreme on Tuesday. The Albert Bartlett (2.40) is a very competitive race, but he will like the decent ground – provided the rain stays away – and the step up to three miles.
The Gold Cup (3.20) is one hell of a race and I’m hoping the weather stays nice as ROAD TO RICHES definitely prefers a sounder surface.
It’s very hard to weigh up the best of the Irish form compared with the British, but my lad has the strongest form from our country. I’m not worried about the trip, he stayed three miles very well at Leopardstown and that is a stiff track.
I won the County Hurdle on TED VEALE a couple of years ago and I’m back on board in the closing Grand Annual (5.15). He’s a second season chaser but it’s a wide open race and hopefully he’ll run well.
