Racing City heads make waves over at the Royal Victoria Dock
THE FOUNDER of foreign exchange consultancy IFX, Nick Williams, has just enjoyed a triumphant weekend down by Canary Wharf – although his success had little to do with currency fluctuations.
Williams and his navigator, RSA risk consultant Martin Robinson, raced his IFX P1 powerboat to victory in the Royal Victoria Dock during a two-day event for the sport. It’s the second year IFX has sponsored a racing team, and the third year Williams himself has raced the speedy crafts.
“Competing takes up a lot of time, mostly because of all of the training – I end up in the boat every other weekend but it’s definitely worth it,” Williams told The Capitalist through his helmet as we sat in his boat (I can confirm that 55mph feels a lot faster on water than on roads).
Powerboat P1, the west London-based company that owns the rights to P1 racing, was in the dock to announce a new team sponsor (Lycamobile) and to have a warm-up race for the season kicking off in Bournemouth in May.
But Team IFX aren’t the only financial whizzes who race: HSBC Securities Services sales director Stuart Cureton and his wife Sara also compete for team Bournemouth.
As if the City isn’t thrilling enough.
