QPR’s Charlie Austin slams David Sullivan claim as “outrageous slur”
Queens Park Rangers striker Charlie Austin has accused West Ham co-chairman David Sullivan of an “outrageous slur”.
Sullivan said this week that the Hammers had refused to meet QPR’s £15m asking price for Austin because of doubts over his injury record.
Austin, who scored 18 goals in 35 games as Rangers dropped out of the top flight last term, yesterday hit back at the claims, calling them “inaccurate, misleading and uninformed innuendo”.
He added: “For a senior figure at a Premier League club to insinuate that I could break down at any moment is an outrageous slur on my professionalism and the work that has gone into making me the footballer I am today.”
Rangers have meanwhile paved the way for former England goalkeeper Rob Green to leave the club by signing Alex Smithies from Huddersfield Town.
