QPR chief slams armchair critics but promises no more excuses
IRATE QPR owner Tony Fernandes has hit back at disgruntled fans who have castigated him for failing to solve the club’s goalscoring conundrum posed by the departure of Loic Remy to Chelsea.
Striker Remy, who spent last season on loan at Newcastle United, signed for the Blues after Chelsea triggered his £10.5m release just days before September’s transfer deadline.
QPR lie slumped at the foot of the Premier League following Sunday’s uninspiring 2-0 defeat at West Ham, with only Burnley netting fewer goals than their tally of four this season.
On-loan Napoli forward Eduardo Vargas has failed to fire while Charlie Austin has shouldered lone striking duties, and Fernandes admits the loss of Remy has had a destabilising effect.
“I love the Remy comments,” Fernandes wrote in response to critics on Twitter. “Remy was staying, he was in my house for dinner to sign the extension then Chelsea called. What back up please? We tried hard with [Fabio] Borini. So please tell me what you would have done? Damned easy to be armchair critics.”
QPR face a daunting run of fixtures after the international break with clashes against Liverpool, Aston Villa, Chelsea and Manchester City. And while he has backed under-fire manager Harry Redknapp for now, Fernandes is adamant there can be no more excuses for the club’s poor start.
“When we let Mark Hughes go we still went down,” he added. “There should be no more excuses.”
